Newsflash:
We have just heard that Gabriel has been selected for the team and will compete for the USA against Canada in a two match qualifier to represent North America in the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2023 bracket. The qualifying matches are being held in South Carolina on 6 and 10 June and the winner will head to Nairobi, Kenya for the World Rugby Trophy tournament taking place 15-30 July.
Gabriel Riordan enrolled at Dartmouth College, a prestigious Ivy League College, in July 2022, and went on to complete his first season in one of the premier rugby programs in American collegiate rugby. Dartmouth is well-known for producing USA rugby sevens' and fifteens' captains, several rugby professional players and a number of Oxford and Cambridge Blues. It also boasts many players with international honours in their starting fifteen.
As a freshman, Gabriel started as a centre. At the end of the season, he was selected to compete with the USA under-20s training squad at the US Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California. Less than 40 of the best players qualified for the American national team and trained for four days in the world-class facilities in Southern California, with several of the players playing overseas in the UK at universities and professional clubs in Europe. If selected to the final match squad, Gabriel will join the team to compete in a two-match series against Canada in the early summer, the winner of which will travel to Nairobi, Kenya to play in the World U20 Trophy against the likes of Scotland and Samoa.
We wish Gabriel all the best.
