Since its foundation in 1553, legacies have played a pivotal role in securing a future for Tonbridge School. The Schools founder, Sir Andrew Judde is also its first legator. He left property in London, as an endowment for the School, helping to ensure its financial viability beyond his death in 1558.
A legacy pledge is a powerful equaliser: while not everyone can make a large lifetime donation, anyone can include a gift in their Will. Pledging a percentage of your estate (rather than a fixed amount) helps protect your other beneficiaries’ shares and adjusts for inflation. Even 1% can make a meaningful impact.
Today, your legacy gift can have a lasting impact on future generations at Tonbridge School.
Founded in 2003 to honour Old Tonbridgians and Friends who support the Tonbridge School Foundation through a legacy gift, the Judde Society now has over 200 members.
While the Society’s primary role is to support Tonbridge’s long-term financial security and development, its active membership, events, and regular communications have also made it increasingly influential in short- and medium-term projects, especially within our Foundation Awards programme.
We warmly welcome new members, who receive a Judde Society tie or scarf and are invited to exclusive events throughout the year, including the Headmaster’s Summer Drinks, our Carol Service, and a special lunch with the Headmaster, along with the chance to dine in their old school house. Members are also acknowledged in our annual Impact Report.
