Widening Opportunity

We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Tonbridge School was founded by Sir Andrew Judde in 1553 with the specific purpose of educating 50 poor scholars. Over time, this philanthropic ethos has evolved into a programme that provides over £2m each year in fee remission for scholarships and bursaries.

"As someone who benefitted from an assisted place, I recognise the importance of making it possible for bright boys, whatever their background our financial circumstances, to be able to come to a school like Tonbridge."

James Priory, Headmaster

Foundation Awards Programme

An important part of the work of the Tonbridge Society is to raise funds for our Foundation Awards bursary programme. This scheme exists to provide access to a Tonbridge education for boys who can clearly and substantially benefit from what the School has to offer and yet might not be able to attend without financial support.

Since the programme started in 2003, we have been able to open our doors to over 70 Foundation Award recipients. The programme is going from strength to strength with 13 boys joining Tonbridge this year on a Foundation Award.

Of course, we can only do this with financial support from our parent and OT community and there is so much more we can do with your help.

If you have seen or experienced the transformative power of a Tonbridge education, help us to hold open the door to future Tonbridge boys by offering your support.
